Luke D. Mackey – Photography Portfolio

Luke Mackey started publishing his photography online in 2007 and has been able to reach over 1 million people from over 40 countries with his photography. Mackey has published his photography through several online and in-person venues over the years including stock photo websites, art printing fulfillment centers, auctions, craft fairs, and intimate photo exhibition venues.

Mackey’s biggest success came with the internet release of his photo Backyard Mist on June 20, 2011. The photo sprawled over 20 countries, and has been featured in Penn Lines Magazine. In April-May 2011 Mackey had to put his personal photo projects aside and work in the studio. He worked for a month doing studio portrait photography about every night for a church’s pictorial directory. In October 2012, Mackey used his photography to raise over $2000 to build a playground for the New Hope Church in Freeport, Bahamas. In that same month, Mackey’s photo November Morning was featured in the October 2012 edition of PennLines Magazine.

From 2014-2015 Mackey worked for his college’s newspaper as Photography Editor. Several photos from his portfolio photos found their way into a few issues of the newspaper. Mackey also had his photos published in other publications from the college, including VOX Literary Magazine.

Mackey worked for a photo lab and camera store from 2018-2020 which gave him new appreciation and knowledge about the photography and printing industries. The experience helped him learn both new techniques and additional technical knowledge in regard to photography equipment and studio photography.

Currently, Mackey tries to travel when he can to photograph new and interesting places. He tries to publish new material in the form of photo sets every year or so. Mackey took his inspiration for how to publish his photography from the music industry. Each photo set can be thought of as an “album” and the photos within the “album” can be thought of as “tracks” on a CD. Okay, the metaphor might be a bit silly, but the idea is to create excitement around the release of a group of photos that is cohesive in some way.
